-Who are you? I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to lov—err, you know what? Let’s just start over:
Hi, I’m Rachel! You can read more about me here.
-What’s up with all the Ryan Gosling photos? It’s all part of the Hey Girl/Ryan Gosling Tumblr meme (the origins of which can be found here). In a nutshell, following the success of Danielle Henderson’s blog, Feminist Ryan Gosling (which, in turn, was a derivative of the blog Fuck Yeah Ryan Gosling), many other bloggers rehashed the format using references to different fields of study, including Typography, International Development and Rhetoric. Being the nerdy cinephile that I am, I kept hoping that somebody would create a Film Studies version of the meme, but when that didn’t happen, I decided to just make one myself.
-Why are all of the words on this site written in yellow text? I concluded that the best way to format text for a mockingly pretentious film studies blog would be to emulate foreign film subtitles, which are usually yellow with a black outline for easy readability.
-Why are you unhappy? Because I’m unhappy.
-Was that a film joke? Yes.
-What’s in your Netflix queue? Look, I’m not going to lie to you; it’s about 15% quality cinema and 85% British crime dramas from the BBC. I just really, really enjoy listening to Alan Cumming say the word ‘Murder’, okay?
-Can you help me write my film paper? Sure, but I’m going to need an extension.
-Are you the same Rachel who created the Public History Ryan Gosling blog? No, sadly I am not (although, as somebody who works for a public history institution, I appreciate her blog very much).
-How can I contact you? Via askbox or email. Please, no carrier pigeons.
-Sarris or Kael? I’m not even going there.
